Mission Statement
The Western Society for the Upliftment of Children seeks to develop a
sustainable programme that will assist the marginalized youth of our
communities to achieve their full potential: physically, emotionally,
socially and spiritually.
Vision
A guiding light to the future of drop-outs, marginalized street and working
children is this exemplary agency called Western Society for the Upliftment
of Children. As a part of our effort we offer up-to-date numeracy and literacy
modules along with Sewing, Craft, Carpentry and Electrical Installation as part
of our pre-vocational areas. In addition we offer blazing trail Interior Decorating,
Barbering, Information Technology, Cosmetology and Videography as part of our
special evening program.
Our noble and efficient staff has reached the ultimate zenith through hard
work, dedication and commitment despite the limited resources.
History
April 1, 1997 marked the transformation of the Montego Bay's Save the
Children Fund's (U.K.) Marginalized Youth Project to Western Society for
the Upliftment of Children.
The original project began in January 1990, in response to the growing
concern for the increasing number of children falling out of the school
system and ending up on the streets.
Over the years, the project has evolved, and become a leading agent in
addressing the concerns of children in the margin of communities of
Western Jamaica.
Recently, Save the Children Fund (U.K.) embarked on a strategic shift
in the way it operates outside the U.K., by giving greater recognition
and support to local capacities promoting the welfare of children.
It is against this background that the marginalized youth project in
Montego Bay became an agency now known as the:
WESTERN SOCIETY FOR THE UPLIFTMENT OF CHILDREN
